DIY Theater MFA book now available
Dear Reader — I am very excited to let you know that my book DIY Theater MFA: Growing Your Theater Skills When You Don’t Have the Time, Money, or Opportunity Pursue a Graduate Degree is now available to read online or as a downloadable pdf.. I’m releasing it to my readers a few days early so that people that I trust can give it a once-over. If you see any mistakes—typos, layout, anything—please let me know (scottwalters@hey.com).
As the title says, this book is for those who, for whatever reason, want to keep on improving their theater skills without going back to school. We’re living in a fabulous time when so many resources are available and easily accessed. But many people aren’t quite sure how to get started, and how to focus their learning. I wanted to describe a method of self-learning that would empower people to learn what they want to learn, and when and where they want to learn it.
I’m publishing this with a Creative Commons license, which means that you can copy and distribute it, or make alterations (as long as you provide attribution and release the new version under the same Creative Commons license) to your own needs. You can read the book online or download a pdf. Both versions are free. (The online version has the advatnage of including videos, which I obviously can’t include in the pdf manuscript.
I would love it if you forwarded the link to anyone you think might find it worthwhile.
In the future, I hope to release Play Analysis in Action: Susan Glaspell’s Trifles in this format, as well as Starting a Sustainable Theater.
I’d be grateful for any feedback you would like to offer.
